Those who want to be in the California Big Game Drawing for 2005 have until 5 p.m. on June 2, 2005, to have their applications into the Department of Fish and Game. Applications for sheep, elk, antelope, and premium-draw deer hunts are all in the 2005 Big Game Hunting Tracks booklet, which was mailed on April 14th to those who applied last year. Hunters who did not apply or want additional copies can find them at their local hunting/fishing stores. This is not one of the years in which proposed changes to hunts and regulations are made, so there are not many changes but the following are several that have been implemented: A new White Mountain Bighorn Sheep Hunt (three tags proposed) 10-year waiting period to apply for antelope ends (With the current preference point system, this rule is no longer needed.) The name of the One-Deer Tag Application has changed to First-Deer Tag Application. Applicants for premium deer, elk, antelope and sheep tags must be at least 12 years of age (16 years of age for sheep) on or before July 1 of the license year for which they are applying. |
