The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is alerting hunters that a map in the "2002 California Hunting Regulations Booklet Mammals and Furbearers" wrongly included Santa Barbara County as part of the state's hunting zone for tree squirrels. The general season for tree squirrels opens on September 14.
Santa Barbara County remains a "no open-season zone," and the map on page 12 of the regulations booklet incorrectly indicates it as part of the "hunting zone." However, the text for the regulations on tree squirrels found on page 13 has the correct information. The regulations booklet, published in May, can be found at license agents and DFG offices. DFG's website carries an electronic version of all regulations booklets at www.dfg.ca.gov. Other counties considered as part of the "no open-season zone" for tree squirrels include Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Inyo, Mono, Riverside, Orange, San Diego, Imperial, and part of Kern. |
