Hunting Memories

Dad's First Turkey

I would like to share a picture of my dad, Ralph Farmer, with the first turkey he has ever taken. He got his gobbler on April 1, a Sunday morning in the Vacaville mountains of California. We had been hunting turkeys about a dozen times over the years and he had shot over one's back around 1993 when it was less than 30 feet away. This one passed 15 yards in front of him, strutting following a hen. It dropped after a clean head-shot. I didn't get my bird that weekend and have yet to take one but I couldn't have been happier when I heard that one shot come from my dad's direction and just knew he had one in the bag. Persistence, persistence…

The on-line magazine is great!

Good Hunting,
Glenn Farmer
