The Salinas Valley Chapter of the California Deer Association (CDA) will give hunters a chance to bid on a PLM tule elk tag and a California Open Zone Deer tag at its annual banquet and fund-raiser on April 15, 2000 in Salinas. The lucky bidder will get to hunt on the Silacci Ranch near Salinas in early August. This is a four-day hunt on a 10,000-acre working cattle ranch. The herd of over 100 tule elk are free ranging and can travel to and from other nearby ranches. Roads used to manage the cattle will allow the lucky hunter an easier task of getting their bull out after it is down. Ranch owner Pete Silacci tells us that they have taken nothing less than 7x7 bulls off the ranch. In addition, a California Open Zone Deer tag and many other great items will be up for auction along with lots of raffle prizes. This event is certain to be a sellout, so make sure you call early if you plan to attend. For further information on tickets, call: Phil Bassetti (831) 674-5795, Clem Albertoni (831) 678-3297 or John Holliday (831) 679-0622. If you are interested in purchasing a tag for a hunt on the Silacci ranch for the 2001 tule elk season, you can contact Pete Silacci at (831) 424-4685. |
